Hola mis amigos!
This morning
we started the morning by meeting the group downstairs to take the bus to a
place called the Alhambra. The Alhambra is an old palace from the time when the
Muslims controlled all of Spain. The palace sits at the top of the old city
overlooking the Sierra Nevada Mountains. When we got to the Alhambra we met a
tour guide who took us through the gardens surrounding the palace and the
inside. We were so thankful that the tour was in English for once! The gardens
were absolutely gorgeous and the sites inside the palace were pretty cool too.
We even learned that when the palace was taken over by King Ferdinand and Queen
Isabella that the Alhambra was the place where the Queen gave the charter to
Christopher Columbus to sail to the Americas. Pretty amazing!
After our
tour, we walked down to the center of the old city (in the miserable heat) to
go shopping and grab some lunch. A group of us had lunch at a small pizza place
before walking around some. We ended up getting some cute gifts too, so we were
happy!
After our
break time, we got BACK on the bus to start our trip to Cordoba. Luckily, the
bus ride was only a couple hours! We got there around 7:15, had to treck our
suitcases for a few blocks, and finally checked in around 7:30. I’m pretty sure
this hotel was only a two star too, not the best quality, but we weren’t
complaining. We had to meet back downstairs at 8:00 to have dinner around the
block from the hotel. Our dinner was spaghetti, salad, pork, and French fries.
For dessert, we had bombons (ice cream sandwiches) that were literally poured
out of the box and onto our plate. It was an experience to say the least.
We hungout
with a few of our friends in the hotel after dinner, but didn’t last too long.
Katie and I called it a night right before midnight. We lucked out and had a
room with a little air conditioning, other students weren’t so lucky. Not to
mention, this was one of the hottest days of the trip. YIKES. We are still
having fun though! Hasta Luego!
